Web 2.0 Made Easy

As a teacher in the classroom, my biggest complaint was not having the most recent technology. Any time I wanted to do something with my class, I would have to schedule time in the computer lab. There wasn't much I could do with 2 computers. I tried to have a computer center during my literacy time, but I just didn't know enough good websites to put the kids on. With all of the things that a teacher has on his/her plate, I just didn't have the time to search the web for fun and educational websites.

Once I began working on my Masters in Library Science, I found so much I could use in my classroom! However still with limited technology, it was impossible to put it to good use. So my husband bought me a projector for my classroom. It was used, but still worked great. So everyday, I carted my projector and laptop into school, because my husband wouldn't let me leave it at school. However, I still had a problem. The computer in my classroom was in a place that made it almost impossible for me to hook my projector to it and show it to the class. So, I had to use my laptap, but I had no Internet. So . . .

Well, I finally became a librarian and THEN the district bought projectors for 3rd-5th grade teachers! So, it didn't help me any, but the great thing is, I can help you. My job this year is to introduce you to technology that you can use in your classroom. So I started this blog to discuss different Web 2.0 tools that you can use in your classroom. I will introduce it and show you an example of how it works. Then, if you want, you can get me to come and train you on how to use it. Trust me, the more you play with it, the easier it becomes. I know some of you are nervous about using these technologies, but we are teaching a generation of kids that are growing up with EVERYTHING on a computer. Between iPads, video game systems, netbooks, and smart phones, what kid wants to sit down and do all of his school work with paper and pencil. Kids love to use technology. It's amazing how a child that is reluctant to learn will thrive when put in front of a computer. We have to stop teaching the way we learned and start teaching the way our students learn. And once you learn how to use it, it's actually FUN!

So get ready to have some fun with learning! Let's create a fun and futuristic learning environment for our students! I am going to make Web 2.0 Tools easy for you!
